NORTH EASTERN LEAGUE 1919-1930
After the First World War, the North Eastern
League was re-formed, but with a number of
changes in terms of membership. Four clubs – Gateshead Town,
Hebburn Argyle, Newcastle City and Sunderland
Rovers – seem to have ‘disappeared’.
North Shields Athletic became ‘Preston
Colliery’ and opted to play in the
Tyneside League. South Shields were
elected to the Football League Division 2
and placed their reserve side in the North
Eastern League. Three clubs joined
the competition – Durham City, Leadgate
Park and Scotswood.
When an asterisk appears at the end of a
team’s name, this indicates the reserve
side of the club concerned.

In some versions of the Final Table for this
season, the goals for and goals against columns
do not match. With the help of the F.C.H.D. website
and the Wakefield Library Service it has
now proved possible to provide a ‘balanced’
version.
