LANCASHIRE COMBINATION 1930-1950
Where an asterisk appears at the end of a team name, this means it is the reserve team of the named club.
1930-1931
Manchester Central and Rochdale Reserves left at the end of the season and were replaced by Barrow Reserves and Fleetwood.
1931-1932
Wigan Borough folded in October, so their reserve team’s record was deleted. Rochdale Reserves returned to the competition to fill the vacancy.
1932-1933
Burscough Rangers and Prescot Cables both left the competition. Leyland Motors and Northern Nomads joined.
1933-1934
Barnoldswick Town departed and their place was filled by New Brighton Reserves.
1934-1935
Marine and South Liverpool joined the Lancashire Combination, which now had 22 members.
1935-1936
Dick Kerr’s FC folded in December and their record was deleted. Lytham and Nelson left at the end of the season, but Droylsden joined and Prescot Cables were readmitted to mean a membership of 21 clubs.
1936-1937
Other versions of the Final Table for this season exist, but this is the only version in which all columns balance.
Oldham Athletic Reserves joined the Lancashire Combination for the next season. Lancaster Town became ‘Lancaster City’.
1937-1938
Northern Nomads left the competition and were replaced by Bangor City.
1938-1939
The outbreak of World War II led to the Lancashire Combination being suspended. Only Droylsden and South Liverpool continued during the 1939-1940 season, joining a number of Cheshire County League clubs in limited competitions during the next few months. After the War ended the Lancashire Combination re-started, but with only 12 clubs during its first season, including new entrants Netherfield. Droylsden and South Liverpool were among those not to rejoin, these clubs having transferred to the Cheshire League.
1945-1946
Bangor City, Clitheroe, Fleetwood, Great Harwood, Horwich RMI, Marine, New Brighton Reserves, Oldham Athletic Reserves and Southport Reserves all rejoined the Lancashire Combination. Former members, Nelson, were also admitted, so the league’s membership was again 22 clubs.
1946-1947
The games between Barrow and Bangor City were not played because of post-war travelling problems. A 9-club 2nd Division was set up, to which Great Harwood were ‘relegated’. The vacancy in what was now Division 1 was filled by the election of Wigan Athletic.
1947-1948
Division 1
Only Horwich RMI were relegated, with Ashton United being elected to Division 1 to take their place.
Division 2
In October, Rossendale United Reserves resigned from the competition, while in February Horwich RMI Reserves followed suit. The records of both teams were deleted. Oldham Athletic ‘A’ did not complete their fixtures, but as this did not have any bearing on league standings their record was allowed to stand. Astley & Tyldesley Collieries and Bacup Borough Reserves withdrew at the end of the season. Division 2 membership was increased to 13 with the election of ACI Horwich, Bolton Wanderers ‘B’, Bootle Athletic, Lancaster City Reserves and Lytham.
1948-1949
Division 1
Bacup Borough and Leyland Motors were relegated.
Division 2
Bootle Athletic and Horwich RMI were promoted. Belle Vue and Oldham Athletic ‘A’ withdrew at the end of the season. Nine new teams joined the competition to increase membership of the 2nd Division to 20 clubs – Blackpool ‘B’, Chorley Reserves, De Havilland, Droylsden United, Earlestown, Lomax, Padiham, St. Helens Town and Wigan Athletic Reserves.
1949-1950
Division 1
Bangor City left the Lancashire Combination at the end of the campaign. Horwich RMI were relegated to Division 2.
Division 2
Blackpool ‘B’ and Earlestown were promoted. De Havilland did not continue. Four new members joined the league – Atherton Collieries, Hindsford, Morecambe Reserves and Netherfield Reserves. This increased the number of teams in Division 2 to 22. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
