YORKSHIRE LEAGUE 1921-1930

The early years of the Yorkshire League have an almost chaotic sense about them.  None of the Final Tables, up to and including the 1929-1930 seasons, have ‘goals for’ and ‘goals against’ columns which match, the differences being as great as 13 for 1928-1929 and 14 for 1925-1926.  While research is carried out to try and correct the figures, the outcomes as held by the Northern Counties (East) League are presented below.  Another feature of the Yorkshire League in its early history is the constant change in membership and size.  By the end of the 1929-1930 season only Harrogate and Selby Town had managed to play in every campaign since the competition began, with Brodsworth Main ever-present from the league’s second season.

At the end of the 1920-1921 season Dewsbury & Savile withdrew, while Harrogate, Wakefield City, Wath Athletic and Wombwell placed their reserve teams in the Yorkshire League, while the clubs’ first elevens joined the Midland League.  Goole Shipyards changed their name to Hook Shipyards.  Five new clubs were admitted – Brodsworth Main, Castleford Town Reserves, Doncaster Rovers Reserves, Halifax Town Reserves and Houghton Main.
