Non-League Football Matters is a football history information site about non-league soccer in the England.
IN MEMORIAM :
R. I. P., SCARBOROUGH TOWN – a community-based football club
Born out of the Scarborough F.C. Academy in 2008 Teesside League Division 2 Champions 2008-2009 Wearside League Champions 2009-2010 Sunderland Shipowners’ Cup Winners 2010 Accepted into the Northern Counties (East) League in June 2010
Sentenced to death, to all intents and purposes, July 21st, 2010 Who by? Was it (allegedly, of course) ... (a) Sport England, (b) Scarborough Council, (c) the F.A. or (d) 2 or more of a, b and c?
Final game - 28th July, 2010 : Scarborough Town won the Graham Hebden Memorial Trophy by defeating last season's NCEL Premier Division champions, Bridlington Town, 3-1, on their own ground. They think it's all over ... it is now.
In protest at this travesty, activity on this website is being suspended as from 8.30 a.m., 30/07/2010 until further notice ... maybe forever.
Thank you for visiting.
During its first year the site has concentrated on leagues in the North.
The site features : The Wearside League (www.wearside-football-league.org.uk), The Northern League (www.northernleague.org/), The Northern Counties (East) League (www.ncel.org.uk), The North West Counties (www.vodkatleague.com), The Unibond/NPL (www.unibondleague.com/), Conference North (www.footballconference.co.uk/) The Manchester League (www.manchester-league.co.uk) - a start at least and similarly with the Northern Alliance AND some leagues no longer with us - The Midland League, The North Eastern League, The Yorkshire League, The Cheshire League, The Lancashire Combination.
As part of planned redevelopment, the site will start looking at the non-league game's history in the South as well. Work has begun, with opening and 2009-2010 pages now on site for: the Southern League the Isthmian League the Combined Counties League + up to1990 the Eastern Counties League + up to 1958 the Essex Senior League + up to 1981 the Hellenic League the Kent League + up to 1984 the Midland Alliance + up to 2002 the Sussex County League + up to 1958 the United Counties League + up to 1970 the Wessex League the Western League
From this page you can go to the 'THE REGIONS' into which the site is divided. These are :
The NORTH-EAST (Northern League, the NCEL, Wearside League, Midland League, North-Eastern League, Yorkshire League, Northern Alliance)
The NORTH-WEST (North West Counties League, Cheshire County League, Lancashire Combination, Manchester League)
The NORTH (Conference North, Northern Premier League)
The CONFERENCE (National, North, South)
The SOUTH - which will include leagues mentioned above + the South Midlands League and others as it is developed during the summer months.
Once into the 'regions' you can access 'League Home Pages' which will tell you briefly about the origins of the leagues included and enable you to see early Final Tables for the competitions. From these you can follow the links provided which lead you onto more Final Tables from the past, together with brief notes on changes in the competition. Details of exactly what's on the site are being put onto the 'region' pages in stages.
THE LATEST
July 18th - a new UPDATES page has been added, first day FIXTURES for a fair number of leagues are now on site and there's going to be a new section coming soon called CLUBS NOTES which will give 'potted histories' of over 100 non-league clubs. It is hoped to build up this new section with information provided by clubs or supporters of these. Also, past tables from various leagues continue to be added.
The TABLES button gives access to Final 2009-2010 Tables for the Conference, the Northern Premier League, the Northern League, the Wearside League, the Teesside League, the NCEL, the North West Counties league, the Manchester League, the Southern League, the Isthmian League, all southern leagues noted above + various leagues at Step 7 and below in the North (e.g. Cheshire, Lincolnshire and West Yorkshire).
WANT TO ADVERTISE ON THIS SITE? IF SO, PLEASE CONTACT rlhopkin@fsmail.net FOR DETAILS.
THE RETURN OF THE BORO
There is another key link at the top of the page to SCARBOROUGH TOWN, champions of the Teesside League Division 2 last season and now champions of the Wearside League at Step 7 in the Pyramid. Well done, Mitch Cook and co.
The club has brought senior soccer back to Scarborough after the town lost its football club on June 20th, 2007, in the High Court at Leeds.
For the history of the old club, there is a link 'NOT FORGOTTEN' from the CONFERENCE 'region' page.
This site is not just about Scarborough, however. What it is about is Non-League Soccer in the North of England - because it matters! |

OTHER POINTS
July 20th - 3 p.m. - The word is that planning permission for floodlighting at Moor Lane, Scarborough will not be granted before September. This means that the NCEL's July 21st deadline for Scarborough Town to have permission for floodlights at their home ground cannot be met. End of story.
The consequences of this bizarre decision for the future of this website are now being considered, while more information on what happened exactly is being looked into.
July 19th - a whole new section - CLUBS' NOTES. Plenty there already, but more needed. Major gap at the moment = brief history on southern clubs. Help in developing this section is invited.
July 18th - there's a brief UPDATE this week with mentions for Darlington, Grays Athletic, Folkestone Invicta, Scarborough Town, Scarborough Athletic, www.seadogsfans.co.uk, Northwich Victoria, Nelson, and the sides tipped to do well in Conference North and South. Also opening day FIXTURES for the Northern Premier League, the Southern League and the Ryman Premier have been added. Lastly, there'll be a whole new section called CLUBS NOTES appearing within a fortnight to which it is hoped clubs/supporters will contribute in future.
An excellent, independent Sussex County League site can be found at www.sussexcountyleague.com
Final TABLES 2009-2010 now total over 50 + Kent League 1977-1984 and Sussex League 1920-1958 are now among the extra pages added to the 'starter and 2009-2010 pages' for 'South Region' leagues. Northern Alliance tables 1989-2000 have been added this week .
GOOD BLOG FOUND!!!!! Well worth a visit - All Roads Lead Somewhere - Robert Campion's groundhopping blog @ - www.rambler77.net.
Thanks to TERRY ROWLEY for supplying some information on the Manchester League in the late 1950s + three inter-war tables which have now been added ... at last.

'Home Pages' of individual leagues all include a 'HISTORY' page button which can be used to access what's here for each competition.
Other useful websites include the FCHD site and the Non-League Tables archive at www.nonleaguetables.co.uk, which covers the period 1946-1980.
Started on July 9th, 2009 - the visitor counter was added on August 17th.
Hit counter disappeared at 4224, so we've started again on February 13th, 2010.
Hopefully around for a while.
