Each of the 4 'live' leagues (the Northern, the Northern Counties {East}, the Northern Alliance and the Wearside) + the three that are no longer with us (Midland, North Eastern and Yorkshire) which are covered has its own 'home page'.  These can be accessed using the buttons above.  

 

These 'home pages' introduce the competitions, saying a little about their origins and presenting early league tables.  All also have 'History' buttons, clicking on which will let you access a few more tables in seconds.

Northern League 1889-2009 (COMPLETE) 

Separate pages so far cover Origins + 1889-1897 ('home'), 1897-1905 ('History'), 1905-1920, 1920-1930, 1930-1950, 1950-1966, 1966-1982, 1982-1991, 1991-1997, 1997-2003 and 2003-2009.

 

NCEL 1982-2009 (COMPLETE)

Separate pages so far cover Origins +1982-1983 ('home'), 1983-1988 ('History'), 1988-1994, 1994-2002 and 2002-2009.

 

Northern Alliance

Pages so far cover 1890-1948 and 1979-1989 only.  There are 8 pages to date and more will be added in due course.  There are a few problems identifying all clubs in the competition in the early 1990s. 

 

Wearside League

Separate pages so far cover Origins ('home'), 1892-94/1901, 1905 and 1912/1945-47/1977-1980 ('History'), 1980-1990, 1900-1998 and 1998-2009

 

Midland League 1889-1982 (COMPLETE)

Separate pages so far cover Origins + 1889-1890 ('home'), 1890-1900 ('History'), 1900-1920, 1920-1930, 1930-1946, 1946-1964, 1964-1976 and 1976-1982.

 

North Eastern League 1906-1964 (COMPLETE)

With separate pages for Origins + 1906-1907 ('home'), 1907-1915 ('History'), 1919-1930, 1930-1946 and 1946-1964.

 

Yorkshire League 1920-1982 (COMPLETE)

This has separate pages for Origins + 1920-1921 ('home'), 1921-1930 ('History'), 1930-1950, 1950-1958, 1958-1966 and 1966-1974.

 

The plan is to cover the history of each of the competitions up to either their end or the present.

 

There is therefore much more to follow.

 

The histories of the Midland League, the North Eastern League and the Yorkshire League are now complete.  The Northern Counties (East) League and the Northern League have just been completed as well, with extra buttons added to some Northern League pages to make it quicker to move through to more recent times.

 

Work has just begun on the Northern Alliance, with 7 pages introduced, largely thanks to the research of Patrick Brennan, who unearthed information while looking into the early history of South Shields FC.

 

The biggest 'gap' in the history of non-league soccer in the region is for the Wearside League.  No Final Tables seem to be available for 1894-1939 or for 1947-1977.  if anyone knows where these can be found, please contact the site.
